Loving Your Mess

If you are going to be honest, there are parts of your life and home that look like they need a FEMA sized clean-up. How do I know? Because I’ve seen my life and we’re probably not all that different.

Life is messy – it is just a fact. In the last hour, I have considered a trip to the Urgent Care, argued with one son about turning the X-Box off, told my daughter that she needs to find a different attitude and sent an angry toddler to bed for a much-needed rest (even though he doesn’t think he should have to do it).

No one except my Amanda and the kids got to see that side of me. If I post anything on social media, it will be a piece of my victory over one of these things. Let me tell you a secret. We’re all like that. Even the well put together, attractive family that has it all figured out.

That is one of the challenges of using any type of social media. We know about our own truths, but we forget about the lies of others. Almost nothing you see online is the whole truth!

Personally, I have been curating my social media feeds for a while now. If you are not posting things that are positive, uplifting, inspiring, or “milk out of my nose funny” I am not interested in following you.

As a foster family, there are a lot more important things to worry about than whether or not your personal perception matches the social media attractiveness of others. If you can instead tie your worth to a mission of providing strength to the weak – the effects of social media will be minimized on your life!

Personally, I have been curating my social media feeds for a while now. If you are not posting things that are positive, uplifting, inspiring, or “milk out of my nose funny” I am not interested in following you. There is no room in my life for anything that smacks of political, religious, or other discord.

  • Recognize that social posts are not often truthful
  • Know that helping others creates true meaning in your life
  • Only allow the best things into your life

If you can follow those axioms you will not only enjoy your life more, but you will also be able to create a great deal more positive change in your world!
