But more than that, I grew up with safety scarcity. I feared for my life from a father who threatened me, and frequently called me \u201cgarbage\u201d and \u201cuseless.\u201d Parents are supposed to protect their children. When my father didn\u2019t, I ran away from home to live on the streets in Kampala.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Four years of doing whatever I needed to survive, a young couple:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 saw me<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 heard me<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 told me I wasn\u2019t alone<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 and showed me that I mattered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They sent me to school. They put a roof over my head. They clothed me. And fed me three meals a day. And allowed me to be a child.
